Greetings all,
I have put together a number of new boxes and hidden several of them in the OKC, OK area. I have consolodated these on my web site. The address is
http://david.snu.edu/~dwilliam.fs/geog1113/okcboxes.htm
I've included some images of the handcarved stamps for several--since it appears that visitors, other than some of my students seeking extra points in my physical geography class, are few and far between.
Enjoy,
DW

WOW, Dennis!
Looks like you're trying to get us jumpstarted a bit! Beautiful carvings!
I've got to find a reason to get out to your part of the country to collect those (Before I do, I'll have to brush up on my "true bearings", or can you recommend a resource, preferably online, to help us all out?)
Nice to hear from you on the list also.

The following web site can be used to calculate magnetic declination based
on location, altitude, and time. I'm not sure if it uses a database of
local anomolies or not as part of its calculation, nor am I sure that this
web site will help you find these boxes in particular or answer your
question. (This is a general resource that is nice to know about;
letterboxing ettiqute prevents further discussion on how to solve this
particular problem or generally how to solve other peoples' letterboxing
clues on the list :-)).

I'm glad you noticed the statement about bearings as it may be misleading. Only the "116" boxes have true bearings in their clues. I set those up to facilitate my students learning navigation skills. The rest are magnetic.
I really liked the site that helps figure magnetic declination for an area. It was one I hadn't seen.
I think a decent web resource on how to adjust a compass for declination is:
http://www.cam.org/~gouletc/decl_faq.html
and about halfway down the following is a discussion
http://www.netside.com/~lcoble/dir9/land_nav.htm
Also, I appreciate the kind words about the carvings. They were fun to do.
